Now into its third year, Selwyn Sounds has become a must-attend for Canterbury music fans. The event will once again be held on the first Saturday in March (2nd) at the Lincoln Domain in Lincoln.
The year’s line-up includes a number of major international acts, including the hugely popular Little River Band, plus Jon Stevens (lead singer for both Noiseworks and INXS), Leo Sayer, Ross Wilson (Daddy Cool and Mondo Rock), Midge Marsden, Peter Urlich (Th’Dudes), Harry Lyon (Hello Sailor), Rikki Morris (Crocodiles), Cherie Mathieson (Sola Rosa), Rick Ball (Hello Sailor) and Tony Waine (Narcs), and 80s cover band Automatic 80s.
Headline act Little River Band is known for a string of instantly recognisable hits. Their total worldwide album, CD sales and digital downloads now top 30 million and they were the very first band to have had Top 10 hits for 6 consecutive years. Probably not surprising then that Eagles founding member, the late Glenn Frey, dubbed Little River Band “the best singing band in the world.”
Leo Sayer has had over 20 top ten singles and five top ten albums, as well as writing hits for many major international performers. More than 40 years since he started his career, Leo still lives for entertaining and spends much of the year touring and performing. Following his record-smashing debut at age 16 with two consecutive NZ number one singles, Jon Stevens - one of the most talented rock musicians ever to emerge from this part of the world - has combined a stellar solo career with stints fronting two huge bands – Noiseworks and INXS.
Ross Wilson has been performing for over 45 years and is one of Australian rock music's most enduring and lauded talents. He initially fronted the hugely popular Aussie band Daddy Cool, then formed the equally successful Mondo Rock. He’s been twice inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame.
The Golden Kiwis are a “Who’s Who' of New Zealand music icons who will be playing their own hits plus other kiwi classics. Performers include Harry Lyon (Hello Sailor), Rikki Morris (Crocodiles), Cherie Mathieson (Sola Rosa), Rick Ball (Hello Sailor) and Tony Waine (Narcs). Peter Urlich will be joining them for the latter part of the set to belt out some Dudes classics.
Peter Urlich joined forces with Ian Morris and Dave Dobbyn to form ‘Th’ Dudes’ – one of New Zealand’s most popular bands. Since then, Peter has continued to entertain crowds with his eclectic mix of music, covering genres from electronic to jazz.
Midge Marsden is an R&B guitarist, harmonica-player, and singer with a musical career spanning four decades. He was voted New Zealand Entertainer of the Year in 1990.
Automatic 80s feature the very best of early to mid-Eighties New Romantic and New Wave hits, with hits from bands like Human League, Simple Minds, Duran Duran, Blondie, and Culture Club.
