City Centre Bus

Red Bus operate the bus network in and around Christchurch. We would advise checking the latest route information on the Metro website which also includes full pricing information. 

Airport Bus

The following bus routes are available from the bus stand, just outside the International Arrivals Terminal.

- Number 3 - travels via Avonhead, city centre and Sumner.

- Number 29 - travels via Fendalton to the city centre.

The Comet Bus goes from Hornby to Papanui via the airport and can be taken from the airport car park entrance on Orchard Road and Memorial Avenue.

Akaroa Shuttle Bus

Red Bus operate the Akaora Shuttle bus from Christchurch centre. The longer scenic route cost $60 while the direct service is priced at $45. From April to November the shuttle service departs Christchurch at 8.30am and 2.00pm while from May to October it’s just 8.30am.

The Scenic Coach trip departs only during the summer months of April to November, leaving at 10.00am. View the Akaroa Shuttle Bus website to check the latest departure times.


The Metrocard is a ‘top-up card’ and alternative to carrying cash with you. They cost $10 and require a minimum of $10 credit to work. You can buy a card form the Metro Kiosk in the Central Station and from various libraries.

View the Metrocard website for more information. The card must have a minimum credit of $10 to work. You can then top up with extra $10 amounts i.e. $20, $30 etc.).
