City Centre Bus
Metro operate the bus network in and around Christchurch. City centre fares start from $2.65 with a metrocard or $4.20 with cash. We would advise checking the latest route information on the Metro website which also includes full pricing information.
Regular Metro buses connect the airport to the city centre and various other locations in Christchurch. The Purple Line and Route 29 buses go via the city centre. You can buy your tickets from the driver. Tickets cost approx $8.50 one way and $15 return. All buses depart from the northern end of the International Arrivals Hall via Door 9.
- Purple Line - Christchurch Airport to Sumner via Avonhead and Christchurch Central Station
- Route 29 - Christchurch Airport to City via Fendalton
- Route 125 - Redwood to Westlake via Christchurch Airport
Richard Pearse Airport - Timaru
Situated 15 minutes from the town of Timaru, the Air New Zealand Link bus operates from Richard Pearse Airport and connects Timaru with 26 other domestic towns and cities including Auckland and Wellington.
Akaroa Shuttle Bus
A couple of shuttle opertators runb services from Christchurch to Akaroa. Travel time is usually between 1.5 and 2 hours. You can expect to pay around $50 - $60 per adult return. The daily services will typically depart at 8.30am with the return at 3.45pm - this will of course vary with the operator. View the Akaroa Shuttle Bus website to check the latest departure times.
Metrocard
The Metrocard is a ‘top-up card’ and alternative to carrying cash with you. They cost $5 and require a minimum of $5 credit to work. You can purchase a card on the Metrocard website, or form the Metro Kiosk in the Central Station and from various libraries.
