Your day starts with pickup from your Christchurch accommodation or a central meeting point, followed by a scenic drive west towards the Southern Alps. The first stop is Darfield, a small town known for its bakery.
Next, you head to Lake Lyndon, a quiet mountain spot for morning tea amid alpine scenery. The route continues over Porters Pass, offering panoramic mountain views before arriving at Arthur’s Pass Village.
At Arthur’s Pass, you can choose short forest walks through native alpine forest to observe local wildlife or take an optional guided hike to Devil’s Punchbowl Waterfall, a dramatic cascade set within the valley cliffs.

For a unique approach, start with a 7:30 am one-way journey on the TranzAlpine Train from Christchurch to Arthur’s Pass. This replaces the road transfer, providing spectacular mountain and valley views. This upgrade is subject to availability.
After exploring Arthur’s Pass, the tour continues to Moana Rua (Lake Pearson) for a relaxed picnic lunch by the lake.
