Choose from guided caving, combined caving and Castle Hill tours, or a full-day experience including transport from Christchurch or Lyttelton Port. The tour focuses on exploring South Island’s limestone formations within the high country.
All options include a fully guided trip through Cave Stream, one of New Zealand’s most accessible underground river systems. After meeting your guide or being picked up (depending on your booking), you’ll receive caving gear and a safety briefing. The 600-meter cave takes 45–60 minutes to complete, featuring crystal-clear water, winding chambers, small waterfalls, and rock ceilings tall enough to stand under. The finale is a climb up a fixed 5-meter ladder beside a waterfall. This family-friendly adventure suits beginners.
Options including lunch offer a picnic with mountain views at the Cave Stream car park. Tours with the Castle Hill visit then proceed by self-drive or provided transport to Castle Hill/Kura Tawhiti, a site of large limestone boulders across tussock plains.
