Description
Your guide will collect you from your accommodation or designated pickup point. Travel over the Port Hills via Dyers Pass to Lyttelton Harbour, enjoying views of mountains and coastline along the way. The kayaking trip begins and ends at a beach in Lyttelton Harbour.
Before setting off, your guide will provide a safety briefing and teach you basic paddle strokes and steering techniques. Paddle towards the harbor’s head, exploring small bays, rocky cliffs, and hidden sandy beaches while your guide shares stories about the area.
Continue to Quail Island, the largest island in the harbor, and discover its rich local history. Paddle past a ship’s graveyard featuring three partially sunken steamships. Enjoy lunch provided on Quail Island or a nearby beach.
After lunch, you will have free time to explore or relax on the island’s beaches. Time permitting, circumnavigate the island, visiting sea cliffs and caves on its northern end before returning to the departure beach.
