Description
Arthur’s Pass, located in New Zealand’s Southern Alps (Kā Tiritiri o te Moana), has historical significance as a traditional trading route for greenstone (pounamu) used by local iwi. Surveyors like Arthur Dudley Dobson documented the area in 1864, establishing the route connecting the east and west coasts. The national park is home to the Kea, the world’s only alpine parrot, alongside dramatic terrain, waterfalls, native beech forest, and unique wildlife.
