Description
On Day 1, depart Queenstown with a small group in a modern minibus. Stop at the historic Cardrona Hotel for a photo, then continue to Wanaka for a lakeside stroll and a photo of the iconic Wanaka Tree.
The tour continues with visits to Lake Hawea lookout, Blue Pools, Thunder Creek Falls, Bruce Bay, and Ships Creek. At Lake Matheson, complete a 4.4-kilometer easy walk to view Mt Cook reflected on the lake.
Arrive in Franz Josef village to check into your self-booked accommodation amid mountain surroundings. You have the evening to explore locally, including options like hot pools or dining at nearby restaurants.
Day 2 begins with a visit to Hokitika Gorge, famous for its turquoise waters. Then explore Hokitika town, noted for gold mining heritage and local crafts. Afterward, travel across the region with stops at Otira Gorge Lookout and Arthurs Pass Village, where you can walk to the Devils Punch Bowl waterfall (fitness required: low to moderate).
The final stop is Castle Hill with its distinctive limestone rock formations, offering opportunities for rock climbing, cultural experiences, and nature observation. The tour concludes in Christchurch, with a central city drop-off.
