Alpine Recreation have been at the forefront of guided mountain climbing, trekking, skiing and snowshoeing since 1981. Founded by eminent mountain guide, Gottlieb Braun-Elwert, the company is still family-owned and offers an extensive range of outdoor adventures in some of New Zealand's wildest and most picturesque landscape. Everything is included in the price, from equipment to food and transport, so there are no hidden costs.

Guided mountain hikes offer a step up from the well-worn tracks of Milford, Kepler and Routeburn. Go off the beaten track on the Lake Tekapo Trek, exploring the Te Kahui Kaupeka Conservation Park. Suitable for all abilities. $450 per person for a group of 6 for the two-day trek, or $670 for a group of 6 on the 3-day option.

Other treks include the hardier Aoraki/Mount Cook 2-day adventure which gets you right up to the mountain itself, with one night in the Caroline Hut, straight opposite the highest ice face in New Zealand. The more intense Ball Pass Summit Trek and Ball Pass Crossing are for experienced hikers, keen to try some beginner mountaineering. These treks are exclusive to Alpine Recreation. From $780 to $1220 per person for 2-3 days for groups of 7-8.

Climb

Instructional courses for beginners to expert, and private guided climbs up some of the Southern Alps. Learn the basics on the 4-day Introductory Climbing Course, or push yourself further on the 6-day Intermediate and Advanced Climbing Courses. Intermediate skiers will benefit from the 5-7 day challenges of Mount Cook and Westland National Parks, including the famous Franz Josef and Fox Glaciers. Expert skiers can take on the steep slopes close to the Caroline Hut.

Nordic skiers can traverse the Lake Tekapo High Country, perfect for all abilities, including teenage families. The same terrain is also available is also available to snowshoers, as is an expedition to Caroline Hut opposite the Caroline Face of Aoraki/Mt Cook.
