The self-proclaimed largest Greek cuisine restaurant and Ouzo bar in New Zealand, Costas Taverna is located in north Christchurch and boasts an earthy selection of food that's still cooked in the traditional Greek style.
The owner traces his cooking heritage back four generations to the banks of the river Evros in Greece itself, and subscribes to a homely, family style of cooking. The menu is rich with traditional Greek dishes, with flame-grilled lamb steaks and feta cheese salads galore.
Aside from the ubiquitous ouzo, there's also plenty of creatively named cocktails and even some of Greece's own beer on offer.
